Biography


Richard Glenn Wolff was born on April 7, 1948. His home of record is Newark, NJ. Richard graduated from Vailsburg High School in 1965, where he had been an all-state soccer goalie.

Wolff enlisted in the US Army in 1967 and attained the rank of Specialist 4 (SP4/4). He served with the Military Police but was transferred to the 173rd Airborne Division.

On September 24, 1968, Wolff was killed in action by enemy machine gun fire in the Binh Dinh Province of South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and was assigned to November Platoon, Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 503rd Airborne Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade. Delta Company was based at LZ Uplift. Richard is buried at Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Hanover, NJ.

Wolff was awarded the Bronze Star for valor, the First Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Parachutist Badge, the Expert Badge with Machine Bar, the Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar, the Automatic Rifle Bar and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon.
