Biography
Alfred Frank Lance, Jr. was born on February 29, 1944, in Somerville, NJ, to Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Lance, Sr. His home of record is Glen Gardner, NJ. He grew up in Glen Gardner, Lebanon Township. He was a 1962 graduate of North Hunterdon Regional High School, where he was a member of the Glee Club. Alfred enjoyed the outdoors and liked to hunt and fish. He was employed by Little Brook Construction Co. in Califon, NJ, and a member of the Lower Valley Presbyterian Church.
Alfred entered the US Army in October 1967. He trained at Fort Hood, TX, before going overseas where he attained the rank of Sergeant (SGT). He was assigned to the 114th Artillery Battalion, 198th Brigade.
On March 25, 1968, at the age of 24, Lance was fatally wounded while driving a transport truck loaded with troops. Other soldiers riding with him were also reported killed.
He left behind his wife, Catherine and an unborn child.
