Biography

James Joseph Amendola was born on October 13, 1944, to Mr. and Mrs. Louis Amendola. His home of record is Closter, NJ.

Amendola served in the US Army and attained the rank of Captain (CAPT). He was a Green Beret trained in intelligence work and the Vietnamese language and culture.

Amendola was killed in action on July 29, 1969, near Tra Cu in Military Zone III. His patrol encountered a large NVA force infiltrating through the A-team's area of operation.
Caught in crossfire from an enemy force, he was killed instantly in the ambush.

Amendola was survived by his wife, Jean, and one son, James Jr. James Sr. never got to see his namesake.

A park in Closter, NJ, was dedicated in late 1969 in James Amendola's memory. It was renovated and rededicated in 2001 by the town of Closter.
