Biography


Robert J. Morris was born on December 19, 1947, to James and Alice Morris. His home of record is Collingswood, NJ. He lived with his parents and sister, Mary. A 1965 graduate of Collingswood High School, he was in the Varsity Club and played varsity football and ran track. Robert also played centerfield, both in All Star Little League Baseball and the Babe Ruth League. He also enjoyed fishing. In 1967, he married Dale Beauchemin.

Robert entered the US Army in November 1967, where he attained the rank of Specialist 4 (SP4). He served with Company C, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry, 199th Light Brigade.

Morris was killed in action on January 2, 1969. He volunteered to take the place of another soldier and go out on patrol despite having been out the evening before. They were south of Saigon when they were caught by a land mine. He was buried in Beverly National Cemetery.

While Robert was in Vietnam, Dale gave birth to their daughter, Julie. Robert died, never seeing his baby daughter.

He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Medal.
