Biography


Robert A. Stern was born on April 1, 1947.  His home of record is Caldwell, NJ.  He was a graduate of Admiral Farragut Academy where he was a cadet officer.  He continued his education at Upsala College in East Orange, NJ.  Robert resided in Brooklyn prior to his enlistment in the service. 

Stern enlisted in the US Army and attained the rank of Warrant Officer (WO).  He completed his basic training at Fort Dix, NJ,  He went on to complete helicopter school at Fort Wolters, TX. He served in Troop C, 16th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Aviation Brigade.

He was awarded the Purple Heart, Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Stern was killed in action on April 7, 1972.  He was survived by his wife, Brenda, and son, Adam, who he never had a chance to meet.
