Biography


Robert H. Ranges, Jr. was born on December 31, 1947. His home of record is River Vale, NJ.

He served in the US Army and attained the rank of Specialist 4 (SP4). Ranges was a radio operator assigned to the Army's 9th Infantry Division as a rifleman.

Ranges was killed in action on April 4, 1968 in the Mekong River Delta near Can Tho.

The following is an excerpt from The Record dated Monday, January 29, 1973:

"He was proud of the fact that he was fighting for his country," said the mother of Spec. 4 Robert H. Ranges, Jr. "He couldn't wait to get in so he would walk down the street, hold his head high, and know that he did his bit." Spec. 4 Ranges had been in the service less than a year in April 1968 when he died of gunshot wounds in the Mekong River Delta near Can Tho. He was a radio operator assigned to the Army's 9th Infantry Division as a rifleman. Three weeks before he died, he spoke to his family from Tokyo where he was on rest and rehabilitation leave. The 20-year-old was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Ranges.
