Biography


Alfred J. Smith was born on November 24, 1940.  He had two sisters and a brother, Walter.

His home of record is Dunellen, NJ.  He was formerly an employee of Art Color Printing Company. 

He served in the US Army and attained the rank of Corporal (CPL).  He served with the 188th Aviation Company as a helicopter machine gunner.

Smith was killed in action on August 30, 1967.  Some of the medals he received include the Purple Heart, Vietnam Campaign Medal and three Air Medals.

Smith was survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Moore, and his three siblings.  A memorial service was held at Sheehan Funeral Home in Dunellen, NJ.  A High Mass of Requiem was held at St. John's Church followed by internment in Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway, NJ.
