Biography

Arthur J. Abramoff was born on March 1, 1941.  His parents were William and Elizabeth "Betty" Abramoff, who resided in Ventnor and Margate many years.  He had a sister, Marilyn.  His home of record is Margate, NJ.  He graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1959.  Arthur continued his education at New York University, graduating in 1963.  On May 1, 2006 a portion of a new building at NYU was dedicated in his memory.

Arthur was married and had a daughter, Karen, and a son, William.

He entered the US Air Force and attained the rank of First Lieutenant (1LT).  He was assigned to the 21st Tactical Air Support Squadron, 405th Tactical Air Command Air Support Group, 7th Air Force.  He served as a Forward Air Controller and his call sign was Cagey 86.

On January 20, 1967, Abramoff was marking a target for an air strike on Dak Na Valley when his aircraft was hit by ground fire.  He was able to keep control of the aircraft long enough to fly it out of the area but could not keep it in the air.  While the Army observer he was carrying was only injured, Abramoff was killed when his aircraft crashed.  His body was retrieved later the same day.
