Biography


Roy Morgan Pellegrino Jones, Jr. was born on October 15, 1946, to Roy and Rita Jones.  His home of record is Penns Grove, NJ.  Roy's nickname was "Butchie".  He had one sister, Audrey, and one brother, Gary.  He graduated from St. James High School in 1964.  He played tenor drum for the Blue Rock Drum & Bugle Corp.  He loved to dance and enjoyed drawing cartoons.

He served in the US Marine Corps and attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC).  He was a radio field operator.

Jones was killed in action on April 18, 1967, when he was hit by an artillery rocket.

Jones was awarded the Purple Heart medal.

He is buried in Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Avenue, Wilmington, DE.

Roy’s name appears on the Penns Grove High School Vietnam War Memorial, dedicated in September 2010, which stands near Penns Grove Middle School.
