Biography

Richard A. Brunnow was born on April 15, 1949, to Arthur and Helen Brunnow.  His home of record is East Paterson, NJ.  He had one sister, Judith.  Richard graduated from Memorial High School in 1967.  He was captain of the wrestling team and a varsity soccer player.

Brunnow left East Paterson, NJ, and enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1968.  He attained the rank of Lance Corporal (LCPL).

Brunnow was in Vietnam nine months and was wounded twice.  On September 2, 1968, in Puang Nam Province, he was killed in action when his jeep struck a land mine.

The family requested that Brunnow's friend, Marine Sgt. Timothy Toine, also stationed in Vietnam, accompany his body home.  However, military authorities said Sgt. Toine was unavailable for the assignment.  A Marine from Dover, DE, was the escort.

Services for Brunnow were held at the Patrick J. Conte Funeral Home in East Paterson, NJ.  He was buried in George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.

Information provided by Alice Harvey (friend) and NJVVMF.
