Johnson had been in the battle zone for six months when, on February 3, 1969, at the age of 21, he died of an injury received while he was a passenger in a military vehicle that was involved in an accident.  A Defense Department spokesman called the death non-hostile.  He is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hightstown, N.
