Bohdan Kowal was born in Germany on May 25, 1946.  His mother had been brought from Russia and his father from the Ukraine to work as slave laborers during WWII.  After liberation, the Kowals came to the United States in 1949, and settled in Clifton, NJ.

Bohdan played soccer for Clifton High School and graduated in 1965.

He was inducted into the US Army in December 1965, and attained the rank of Specialist 4 (SP4).  He completed basic training at Fort Dix, NJ.  He arrived in Vietnam on August 8, 1966.

On April 8, 1967, in Hua Nghia Province, Kowal was killed in action while serving as a rifleman with C Company, 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division.

He left behind his parents and two brothers.  He was one month short of his 21st birthday.  Bohdan Kowal is buried in Cedar Lawn Cemetery Clifton, NJ.
