Biography
Philip K. Dorn was born April 23, 1945, to Daniel and Hilda Dorn. He lived in Red Bank, NJ and later Shrewsbury, NJ. He had one brother, Daniel, and two sisters, Patricia and Kathy. He was a 1964 graduate of Red Bank High School where he enjoyed football, baseball and fishing.
Philip entered the US Marine Corps. He received his basic training in Camp Lejeune, NC. He was transferred to Hawaii and then sent to Vietnam. He served in the 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, Company C and attained the rank of Lance Corporal (LCPL).
On June 4, 1966, Dorn was killed in action. He died of head wounds inflicted by a sniper's bullet that he received while on patrol in the Chu Lai area of South Vietnam.
Dorn received the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
